Almaty Libraries recognized as the best in Kazakhstan
At a meeting of the Kazakhstan Library Union held in Turkestan, a special award was presented to the Director of Libraries of Almaty, Meiram Bektembayev. This annual event, held on October 10-11 in Turkestan within the walls of the Turkestan Regional Universal Scientific Library “Farab”, brought together representatives of the library sector to discuss issues of development and support of librarianship, as well as the integration of Kazakhstani libraries into the international community.
This year, among all regions of the country, Almaty libraries were recognized as the best. There are 28 city libraries in Almaty, three of which work around the clock. Libraries offer readers comfortable conditions: a constantly updated book collection, free high-speed Internet and modern computers. In addition, they provide access for visually impaired and blind readers using special adapted equipment.
Meiram Bektembayev noted that the Libraries of Almaty have made a significant leap in creating high-quality conditions for their readers and expressed gratitude to the Mayor’s Office of the city for supporting the initiatives of the Libraries of Almaty and the entire library staff, who work hard for the benefit of the people. He stressed that thanks to the introduction of new technologies and modern equipment, as well as various events, libraries have become more accessible and attractive to all residents of the city.
