Keepers of Books and Spirit: A Celebration in Honor of Librarians Held in Almaty

One of the most vibrant and significant events in the city’s cultural life — Librarian’s Day — took place at the creative center Alatau Creative Hub. This celebration became a true symbol of recognition for the importance and nobility of the profession that unites guardians of knowledge and inspirers of new generations of readers.

The solemn event was attended by Daniyar Aliyev, Head of the Department of Culture of Almaty, Mereke Kulkenov, Chairman of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan, veterans of the library field, employees of city libraries, and representatives of the creative community.

In his speech, Chairman of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan Mereke Abdeshuly Kulkenov emphasized:

“A librarian is not just a mediator between the book and the reader, but a person who breathes new life into the book. Thanks to their work, the book becomes a living source of spirituality, and the reader finds the path to knowledge, culture, and inner growth.”

Words of gratitude were expressed from the stage to librarians — people who have devoted their lives to enlightenment, and to preserving the cultural and spiritual heritage of the nation.

As part of the program, a ceremony of recognition took place, during which veterans and distinguished library professionals were awarded letters of appreciation and honorary distinctions from the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Akimat of Almaty, and the Department of Culture of Almaty.

The festive atmosphere was enriched by creative performances and musical numbers by renowned Kazakhstani artists. The concert program became an emotional finale to the celebration, filling the hall with warmth, joy, and pride for the professional community of librarians.

Every year, Almaty Libraries pay tribute to their veterans, expressing gratitude for their loyalty, dedication, and invaluable contribution to the development of the city’s library and cultural space.

Once again, the celebration affirmed that being a librarian is not just a profession — it is a calling that connects the past, present, and future of culture.
