Summer Bookcrossing Launches in Almaty: New Opportunities for Intellectual Leisure

Almaty is a vibrant metropolis where culture and modern urban initiatives go hand in hand. Each year, the city sees a growing number of public projects aimed at creating comfortable opportunities for residents to engage in intellectual and cultural leisure activities. One such initiative is the annual summer bookcrossing program, organized in open public spaces across the city.
This year, special bookcrossing shelves have once again been installed in city parks, allowing residents and visitors to freely borrow a book, enjoy reading it, and later exchange it for another. This simple initiative transforms an ordinary walk into a meaningful leisure activity while encouraging a greater interest in reading.
Starting from June 1, summer bookcrossing shelves will be available at Gandhi Park, Karagaily Park, Mukagali Makatayev Square, and Library No. 44, located at 12B Tsentralnaya Street. Beginning in July, an additional bookcrossing shelf will open at the Central City Library named after A. P. Chekhov, located at 109 Gogol Street. The bookcrossing shelves will operate from Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Reading outdoors, surrounded by the peaceful atmosphere of a park, offers a unique opportunity to spend the summer season both pleasantly and productively.
The collection of books available on the shelves will be regularly updated. Visitors will find a wide selection of fiction, as well as educational, informative, and motivational literature. The project aims to transform public spaces not only into places for recreation, but also into venues for cultural interaction and intellectual exchange.
Add a book to your summer walk: discover a new title on a bookcrossing shelf in the park, and after finishing your own book, leave it for the next reader, contributing to a shared culture of reading and book exchange.
