A New City Library Opens in Kulager, Almaty, for the First Time: A Modern Space for Reading, Learning and Connecting

The first city library in the Kulager microdistrict of Almaty’s Zhetysu District has opened, with a capacity of 100 visitors. This was announced by the city’s Department of Culture.
This is more than just a new reading room. It is a modern space where residents can read, study, work, pursue creative activities and connect with one another.
The new library has become part of the city’s library system and opened as part of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s “Reading Nation” initiative, aimed at promoting reading culture and enhancing society’s intellectual potential.
Covering an area of 551 square metres, the library offers facilities for a variety of activities and leisure. It can accommodate up to 100 visitors, and its book collection already exceeds 14,000 items.
The space is designed not only for those who come to borrow books. It features a computer room, quiet reading areas, a children’s space and a coworking area. Dedicated spaces are also available for meetings, discussions, creative events and clubs.
As a result, residents of the Kulager microdistrict now have a place where people of all ages can spend their time productively: schoolchildren can prepare for classes, university students can study or read, and adults can use the coworking area or attend events.
Particular attention has been paid to accessibility. Special workstations have been installed for visitors who are blind or visually impaired. The library also provides tools for working with Braille, screen-reading software that converts on-screen information into speech, and accessible interfaces.
An interactive learning complex will be another attraction for young visitors. It brings together educational applications, electronic textbooks, knowledge databases, interactive games and government educational resources.
The library also offers children a modern learning environment where they can use digital tools to support their education.
Residents of the microdistrict now have access to a modern educational and community space close to home. The library is located at 75а Omarov Street, Kulager microdistrict. It is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Almaty currently has 31 city libraries, seven of which operate around the clock, 24/7. In addition, two book-lending points operate in the city’s shopping centres.
