In Almaty, a charitable project has been launched to deliver books to people with limited mobility.

On March 15th, during the Charity Day within the framework of the Nauryznamu Decade, a pilot project was launched in Almaty to deliver books for free to the homes of people with limited mobility. Now, the city’s library collection has become even more accessible, and reading is more convenient for those who find it difficult to visit libraries in person.
The project is being implemented by the Libraries of Almaty with the support of the city’s akimat and the Yandex Go Delivery service. Until May 2025, people with limited mobility will be able to order books for free through the almatylibrary.kz website, and a courier service will deliver them directly to the readers’ doors.
How to use the service:
- Choose a book on the Almaty Libraries website.
- Fill out a form and attach a document confirming the status of a person with limited mobility.
- Wait for a call from the operator to confirm the details.
- Within 1-2 days, the courier will deliver the order.
Books are issued for 14 days, with the possibility of an extension. They can be returned in the same way—via free courier delivery.
“This project is not just about books, but about care. We want every resident of Almaty to have equal access to knowledge and literature. Today, on Charity Day, we are launching this service, and in the future, we plan to expand its capabilities,” said the Department of Culture.
The project aims to eliminate barriers that prevent people with limited mobility from using library services. The Akimat of Almaty actively supports the modernization of libraries, providing them with modern equipment for people with visual and hearing impairments.
Currently, the delivery service is available only to people with limited mobility, but by summer, the possibility of offering it to all residents—with paid delivery—is being considered.
