Libraries of Almaty at the II International CIS Forum
Almaty libraries took part in the II International Forum of Children’s and Youth Books of the CIS countries, which was held on December 4-6, 2024 in Moscow. At the forum, Deputy Director for Librarianship of Almaty Libraries Lyazzat Spatayeva and head of the Central Children’s Library named after S.Begalin Alma Konarova spoke about the achievements and innovations in the work of Almaty libraries. In particular, they shared their experience in the introduction of digital technologies, the creation of interactive and multimedia formats for children, as well as the development of cultural and educational centers.
Special attention was paid to new initiatives that have significantly improved accessibility and user-friendliness for readers. Thus, in Almaty, three libraries have switched to a round-the-clock operation mode, which allows users to pick up and return books at any time, without time restrictions. This innovation has made libraries more accessible to all categories of citizens, including those who cannot visit institutions during normal hours.
In addition, autonomous self-service libraries have been installed in the city, which allow readers to take and return books on their own, reducing waiting times and increasing work efficiency.
A free book delivery service was also introduced in Almaty. This service has become especially popular among people with disabilities, elderly readers and those who cannot visit the library for various reasons.
In general, Almaty continues to actively develop projects aimed at expanding access to books and cultural resources, as well as strengthening cooperation with libraries of the CIS countries, which contributes to cultural exchange and strengthening friendly ties between peoples.
