Libraries of Almaty at the present stage: the view of Director Meiram Bektembayev
Almaty is one of the leading cultural, scientific and educational centers of Kazakhstan. There are 28 libraries successfully functioning in the city under the jurisdiction of the Almaty Library, including 2 central, 17 mass and 8 children’s libraries, as well as 1 book distribution point. Almaty libraries are actively developing, using innovative forms of work with readers, introducing advanced technologies in librarianship to provide high-quality services to citizens.
In an interview published in the newspaper “Kazakhstanskaya Pravda” dated August 02, 2023, the director of the Almaty Library, Meiram Bektembayev, shared his thoughts on the importance of libraries in the spiritual and cultural development of the city’s residents, in the formation of an educated society. He noted that libraries not only provide access to books and information, but also become centers of cultural and intellectual development, hold educational events, meetings with writers and poets, exhibitions and entertainment events.
Meiram Bektembayev noted that Almaty Libraries are actively improving their capabilities, introducing modern digital technologies and providing access to electronic resources, developing online programs and offering access to electronic books, which makes them more accessible and convenient for modern readers.
