A New Modern Library Opens in Almaty’s Turksib District in Support of the «Оқитын ұлт» Initiative

A new municipal library has opened in Almaty’s Turksib District. The press service of the Almaty City Department of Culture announced the opening.

The new facility was established as part of the “Reading Nation” initiative launched by Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, which aims to promote a culture of reading in society and enhance its intellectual potential.

The new municipal library is a modern cultural and educational space designed for reading, learning, and spending leisure time meaningfully. The library covers an area of 340 square metres and houses a collection of more than 10,000 publications. Its collection includes fiction, children’s literature, educational and popular science books, as well as contemporary works of various genres in Kazakh, Russian, and foreign languages, catering to readers’ different ages and interests.

Visitors have access to a comfortable reading room, a book-lending section, children’s areas, a computer-equipped workspace, book-return machines, and smart shelves that allow readers to borrow and return books independently. Modern technologies make the process of borrowing and returning books more convenient and efficient.

The new space aims to encourage greater interest in reading among district residents and create favourable conditions for their cultural and intellectual development.

Address: 336/37, Kunaev Residential Complex area, Turksib District, Almaty

Opening hours: Daily, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

There are currently 32 municipal libraries operating in Almaty, seven of which provide round-the-clock services, operating 24/7. In addition, two book-lending points operate in the city’s shopping centres, while 32 self-service library stations are located in high-traffic areas to improve residents’ access to books.

The opening of the new library will provide residents of the Turksib District with a modern space for education and cultural enrichment while improving access to library services.
