National Book Day: Practical Workshop for Library Specialists Held in Almaty

In celebration of National Book Day, the republican youth convention “The Library in the Space of Time” took place in Almaty. The event was organized by the Libraries of Almaty with the support of Gylym Ordasy and the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Gathering at the venue were 42 young library professionals from various regions of the country, who presented their initiatives and discussed current challenges and future prospects of the library sector.

One of the key events was a practical workshop for regional librarians, conducted by specialists from the A.P. Chekhov Central City Library, the S. Begalin Central City Children’s Library, and Gylym Ordasy. Participants gained hands-on experience working with the Automated Library Information System (ALIS), studied the processes of digitalizing book collections, and learned about techniques for restoring printed publications. The application of these solutions in Almaty has become a successful example of library modernization that could be scaled to other regions.

The event concluded with a demonstration of a self-service autonomous library — an innovative format that has the potential to redefine traditional library services.
