A Literary Evening Dedicated to the 110th Anniversary of Kayum Mukhamedkhanov Was Held

Today, the Mukhtar Auezov Library hosted a literary evening titled “Teacher and Student. Mukhtar and Kayum. Spiritual Continuity” dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of Kayum Mukhamedkhanov, an outstanding scholar, Abai researcher, and laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Among the guests of the event were Dina Kayumovna Mukhamedkhan, Doctor of Science in International Educational Development, Professor, and Director of the Kayum Mukhamedkhanov Education and Culture Center, as well as public and cultural figures, prominent scholars, literary critics, and students and followers of Kayum Mukhamedkhanov.

As part of the event, a book exhibition titled “Kayum Mukhamedkhanov: Abai’s Younger Brother, a Great Son of Alash” was organized. The exhibition featured publications from Murat Auezov’s personal collection and materials provided by the Kayum Mukhamedkhanov Education and Culture Foundation. Visitors were introduced to books, memoirs, photographs, and archival documents dedicated to the scholar’s life, creative work, public service, and scientific legacy. The exhibition also presented his ten-volume collected works and research in the fields of Abai studies, Auezov studies, and Shakarim studies. It consisted of three sections: “Scholar. Public Figure. Personality,” “Treasury of the National Spirit,” and “A Museum, an Archive, and a School in One.”

During the evening, an online congratulatory message from Zifa-Alua Auezova, granddaughter of Mukhtar Auezov and a distinguished orientalist and Turkologist, was presented. Songs dedicated to Kayum Mukhamedkhanov and his mentor Mukhtar Auezov were performed, along with Tatimbet’s famous kuy “Saryzhailau.” Young performers and representatives of the arts enriched the event with a vibrant literary and musical program.

At the conclusion of the event, Dina Kayumovna Mukhamedkhan presented letters of appreciation to the guests and the library staff on behalf of the Kayum Mukhamedkhanov Education and Culture Center. In addition, copies of the book “The History of the Nation Through Human Destinies,” published by the foundation, were donated to the collections of Almaty Libraries and presented to the participants of the event.

The meaningful evening became an important cultural and educational event, honoring the rich legacy of Kayum Mukhamedkhanov and promoting the continuity of Kazakhstan’s spiritual and intellectual traditions. It received high appreciation from the audience and participants alike.
