Almaty Hosts «Night at the Library» to Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Zhambyl Library

Literary gatherings, theatrical performances, musical compositions, a book presentation and an opportunity to explore unique museum artefacts – all these activities brought together visitors at the cultural event «Night at the Library», held at the Zhambyl City Youth Library in Almaty.

The large-scale literary and cultural evening was organized as part of the Head of State’s «Reading Nation» initiative and marked two significant anniversaries: the 50th anniversary of the library’s establishment and the 30th anniversary of it being named after Zhambyl Zhabayev.

The event brought together renowned poets and writers, representatives of the house museums of Gabit Musrepov and Sabit Mukanov, library veterans, readers and literature enthusiasts. Guests congratulated the library staff on the anniversary and wished them continued success in their work.

The festive programme opened with a theatrical performance featuring an actor portraying Zhambyl Zhabayev, followed by traditional kui compositions performed with orchestral accompaniment. Visitors were also shown a video highlighting the library’s 50-year history.

As part of the evening, a presentation was held of «The Brave Ant», a children’s book by young writer Nurbek Nurzhanuly. Guests also enjoyed the musical and literary programme «Sezim Museyi», featuring songs and poetry. Tour guides from the house museums of Sabit Mukanov and Ghabit Musrepov introduced visitors to the writers’ personal belongings and historical artefacts, sharing insights into their cultural and historical significance.

In addition, the publishing houses and bookstores «Otbasy Khrestomatiyasy», «ATA Creative Hub», «Qasym» and «Molia&DOS» presented their publications to visitors.

The evening concluded with a ceremony honouring library veterans, who received commemorative badges and letters of appreciation. Active readers were also recognized in the «Best Reader» category and presented with memorable gifts.

For half a century, the Zhambyl City Youth Library has made a significant contribution to the intellectual development of younger generations, fostering an interest in literature and promoting national spiritual values. The cultural event «Night at the Library – 2026» continued this longstanding tradition, bringing together readers, members of the literary community and book lovers.
