An international literary and scientific conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Olzhas Suleimenov held in Almaty

Today, an international literary and scientific conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the outstanding Kazakh poet, writer, and public figure Olzhas Suleimenov was held in Almaty at the Mukhtar Auezov Library.
The event was attended by renowned writer Bigeldy Gabdullin, Deputy Director of the International Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures under the auspices of UNESCO Igor Krupko, Editor-in-Chief of the Prostor magazine Farkhat Tamendarov, Director of the National Cultural Center “House of Auezov” Diar Konayev, as well as representatives of the cultural and literary spheres, members of the international literary and scientific community, who delivered congratulatory speeches.
The General Director of the Mukhtar Auezov Institute of Literature and Art, Kenzhekhan Matyzhanov, sent a welcoming message in which he emphasized the significance of Olzhas Suleimenov’s creative legacy, his contribution to the development of world literature and the humanities, and the continued scholarly interest in his works:
“Olzhas Suleimenov is an outstanding figure who gained worldwide recognition through his profound poetry and deep research. His work has received international acclaim and continues to be actively studied. We wish the poet many more years of life!”
During the conference, participants discussed the place of the poet’s creative heritage within the literary process, the interaction between Eastern and Western cultures, and the influence of his works on contemporary humanities and the literary environment.
In his speech, Igor Krupko, Deputy Director of the International Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures under the auspices of UNESCO, highlighted the philosophical depth of Olzhas Suleimenov’s poetry and his unique role in the dialogue of cultures:
“Olzhas’s poetry is true philosophy. His works masterfully combine national traditions and modernity. He tirelessly works to pass on his rich heritage – of enormous importance to both Kazakh and world culture – to the younger generation. He stood at the origins of important discoveries whose meaning and significance were not always immediately understood by his contemporaries, but which reveal themselves decades later,” he noted.
As part of the conference, video materials and archival recordings dedicated to the poet’s life and creative journey were presented.
At the conclusion of the event, participants donated books to the library’s collection and expressed wishes for the successful implementation of future scientific and cultural projects. On behalf of Almaty Libraries, conference participants were presented with letters of appreciation and commemorative gifts.
The conference became an important international cultural event aimed at promoting the contribution of Olzhas Suleimenov to the development of Kazakh and world culture and science.
